When I’m asked what I do for a living…
I’m blessed to be able to tell people that I make good things stronger… it’s what I’ve always done. What do I mean by that? For several years in my 20s and 30s, I was a personal trainer, specializing in making the muscular system strong and well-balanced. Now as the director of operations for Abba’s Heart Counseling Center, I support my work family by handling all of the administrative tasks of billing and payroll. This allows them the freedom and flexibility to focus on clients without feeling overwhelmed with paperwork. I also enjoy the privilege of creating and maintaining healthy networking relationships in the community through the Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce.
But that’s only the beginning…
I specialize in strengthening one of the most important aspects of our human existence… faith. I knew from the very beginning of my theological training in Christian apologetics that the main benefit of that training and education would be to strengthen the faith of my fellow brothers and sisters… to prevent deconstruction.
A good explanation of a difficult biblical doctrine can also help to remove obstacles to a person’s belief. Few things in this world give me as much joy and excitement as watching a barrier to faith come crumbling down, paving the way for belief and trust.
I prefer to run toward the fight…
I have prayed that God would direct my path in this world by awakening passions in me. I am naturally drawn towards the biblical topics that many folks in the church would rather not speak about. The problem of evil was the main focus of my Masters degree. I thought to myself, “Who’s the biggest bully on the playground? If I can knock him out, the rest will be easy.” All the topics that press on my heart center around this umbrella theme. No question is off limits and no topic is taboo…because all truth is God’s truth, and if we are secure in the truth, we have nothing to be afraid of.
Ask yourself some pointed questions…
How would you respond if someone asked you:
“If God is all loving and all powerful, why is there so much evil and suffering in the world?”
“How can you worship a God that commanded the killing of women and children in the Old Testament?”
“Why would an all loving God punish people in hell for all eternity for roughly 80 years worth of wrongdoing?”
If you don’t have good answers to these questions, it can begin to plant seeds of doubt. It can also prevent you from having the difficult conversations with your loved ones, even if you are personally not shaken.
The enemy would be happy to have the conversation with you that you should be having with God…
Don’t let fear stop you from asking hard questions. God is not afraid of your hard questions, and neither am I. Let me guide you to some biblically sound, logically coherent, and intellectually satisfying answers you may not have considered before you give up belief.
