Jami Walker

Hello! My name is Jami.

I am a registered mental health counseling intern who currently serves in the Seminole County Public School System as a high school counselor. I provide individual counseling to support clients through current short-term trials and long-term mental health diagnosis.

Choosing to go to counseling can be a vulnerable decision

and yet one that is highly empowering and impactful. Each client possesses unique strengths that contribute to the problem solving nature of counseling. My belief is no one understands nuances of your life better than you; therefore, your strengths will be very crucial in the counseling process.

I have worked for six years as a high school guidance counselor, working in the Florida public high schools. As a school counselor, I specialized in working with anxious teens helping them focus on problems such as focusing, planning, organization, and executive function tasks. When working with teens diagnosed with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, and depression, I aim to help clients with building coping skills, and self-esteem.

Knowing the intricacies of the public school system gives me a unique perspective of helping teens navigate their surrounding social spaces while working collaboratively with parents/guardians and understanding what resources are available.

My education and experience at the University of Florida has prepared me to not only help teens, but also young adults, college students, and families in counseling. During my education years, I certainly learned important theories and strategies for helping clients, but more than that I learned about myself and overcame personal struggles. I learned the importance of living in a balanced mindset and balanced lifestyle but only through, you guessed it, living in an unbalanced lifestyle with an emphasis on high competition and work. Through mentors, personal counseling, and the convicting work of the Holy Spirit, I am learning to lean into my walk with Jesus and rest my soul in Him. Join me in learning what it looks like to find rest in a busy world around us.

I look forward to assisting you through life’s sometimes tough transitions and supporting your family’s needs. You can schedule an appointment with me by calling: (407) 285-6284.
